We got some clarification on what they are looking for, via a qualification call yesterday with the hiring manager:
*	The position is a jack-of-all-trades that includes backend development, maintenance, and oversight of applications.
*	Requires strong C#/.NET coding skills while supporting and collaborating with the development team.
*	Heavy focus on SQL Server, ETL tools, and stored procedures for backend data operations.

Key Responsibilities
Backend Development & Maintenance: 
*	Maintain and update 5 key applications (primarily .NET-based).
*	Pull and process data from sources like DB2, Teradata, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Data Warehouses (DWH).
*	Build and optimize backend systems that feed into SQL for Tableau reporting.
ETL and Data Operations: 
*	Use tools like SSIS packages and scheduled SQL jobs to pull and process data.
*	Perform heavy ETL work and SQL-based development to transform and load data.
Support for Reporting: 
*	Work closely with Tableau resources (not as a developer but to support and share high-level ideas).
*	Bridge gaps between backend work and front-end Tableau developers.
Oversight and Development Team Collaboration: 
*	Guide and assist developers and resolve issues.
*	Participate hands-on ("not afraid to let their finger touch the keyboard") to develop code or proof of concepts (POCs).
*	Help bridge silos between various parts of the team.
Project Focus: 
*	Support the team in a planned .NET Framework to .NET Core migration project for 2025.
*	Recommend and ensure best practices are followed for future planning.
Current Challenges
*	High Maintenance: Supporting 5 applications that gather data and provide scenario classifications.
*	Data Pipeline Complexity: Pulling data from multiple platforms, including DB2, Teradata, and DWH.
*	Last-Minute Reporting Requests: The team operates at the final stage of the development lifecycle, resulting in urgent reporting demands.
*	Communication Gaps: Need to bridge team "silos" and coordinate across reporting and backend teams.
Tools and Technologies
Backend & ETL:
*	SQL Server, SSIS, Scheduled SQL Jobs.
*	Custom Splunk applications to pull data.
*	C#/.NET for development.
Data Platforms: 
*	DB2, Teradata, PostgreSQL, Data Warehouses.
Reporting: 
*	Tableau for front-end reporting (collaborate with Tableau developers).
Version Control & DevOps: 
*	Azure DevOps (preferred), Git is acceptable.
Scripting: 
*	Minimal Python required.
Team Structure
*	Supports applications assisting the testing team.
*	Works on reporting side with front-end Tableau developers.
*	A generalist to bridge "silos" and collaborate across the team.
Qualifications
*	6+ years of experience in C#/.NET with emphasis on ADO.NET and .NET Core.
*	4+ years of experience with data engineering and a strong background in on-prem ETL tools and solutions.
*	4+ years of experience working on SQL Server. Have a strong understanding of indexes, replication, and SSIS. Experience working with DB2,PostGres and Teradata would be a plus.
*	4+ years of experience with building scalable APIs and the ability to architect secure, efficient, and performant solutions.
*	4+ years of experience with Azure Devops/TFS/GIT.
*	Strong ownership, analytical, and communication skills to convey information to both technical and business stakeholders.
*	Ability to deliver while operating with occasionally limited and open-ended requirements.
*	Understand and identify downstream impacts of complex changes/requirements.
*	Understanding and translating business needs into technical specifications for development teams.
*	Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
*	Effective problem-solver and ability to create innovative solutions.
*	Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
*	3+ years of experience with the railroad and/or other transportation/Logistics industries with a combined experience of 7+ years.
*	Python programming experience is a plus.
*	Experience in database design and dimensional modeling.
*	Exposure to data analytics solutions and dashboard tools such as PowerBI and Tableau would be a plus.
*	Experience working with Messaging Systems and building producers/consumers for Kafka/RabbitMQ/QPID/Tibco would be ideal.
*	Familiar with one cloud environment; AWS or Azure.
*	Understands continuous integration and delivery concepts.
*	Work experience with data analytics, machine learning, or modeling.
