Remote Contract Position for M365 Architect with Microsoft Viva, SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365, Power Platform
Locations: United States Remote Duration: Contract Job Description: Seeking a highly experienced Microsoft Viva Technical Lead / Solution Architect to lead the assessment, architecture, design, implementation, integration, and deployment of a Microsoft Viva-powered employee experience platform. The Technical Lead will serve as the primary technical authority for the engagement and will translate business requirements into scalable Microsoft 365 solutions while leading technical delivery resources throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires deep expertise in Microsoft Viva, SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and enterprise integrations. The Technical Lead will work closely with business stakeholders, communications teams, infrastructure teams, developers, UX/UI resources, and the Project Manager to ensure successful delivery of the solution. Role Scope and Leadership Expectations • Serve as the lead architect and technical authority for the Microsoft Viva implementation initiative. • Lead the overall solution strategy, design, and architecture for Microsoft Viva Connections, Viva Engage, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and related Microsoft 365 capabilities. • Lead and govern the SharePoint Online and intranet design workstream; guide supporting SharePoint SMEs, UX/UI designers, Viva consultants, and developers rather than operating as a standalone SharePoint designer role. • Work with the Project Manager to align project activities, dependencies, milestones, resource needs, risks, and issue escalation while retaining technical accountability for solution outcomes. • Ensure all technical deliverables align with agreed scope, business objectives, governance requirements, security standards, and Microsoft best practices. Primary Responsibilities: Discovery, Assessment & Requirements Gathering • Lead project kickoff sessions and discovery workshops. • Facilitate business and technical stakeholder interviews. • Gather, document, and validate business, functional, and technical requirements. • Assess current-state intranet, collaboration, and employee experience platforms. • Analyze Microsoft 365 tenant configuration, security, governance, and access models. • Review infrastructure, licensing, and Microsoft Viva readiness. • Evaluate business processes and employee engagement requirements. • Develop current-state and future-state solution recommendations. • Produce assessment findings, gap analyses, and technical recommendations. Solution Architecture Leadership • Define the end-to-end solution architecture across Microsoft Viva, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft 365 services. • Develop technical roadmaps and implementation strategies. • Create and maintain architecture documentation and technical design specifications. • Define information architecture, content architecture, navigation strategies, governance models, and security frameworks. • Lead architecture workshops and design review sessions. • Ensure solution alignment with Microsoft best practices and organizational standards. • Validate technical feasibility of requirements and proposed solutions. • Review and approve solution designs, technical documentation, and implementation approaches. Microsoft Viva Leadership • Lead the design and implementation of Microsoft Viva Connections. • Lead integration of Viva Connections with Viva Engage. • Develop employee experience strategies leveraging Microsoft Viva capabilities. • Design dashboard experiences and Adaptive Card solutions. • Configure and optimize Viva services to meet business requirements. • Identify opportunities to leverage additional Microsoft 365 E5 capabilities. • Define governance and adoption strategies for Microsoft Viva services. Integration Architecture & Technical Design • Define and lead enterprise integration strategies. • Design integrations between Microsoft Viva and business applications. • Lead API integration design and technical implementation planning. • Design solutions leveraging Microsoft Graph API, REST APIs, Adaptive Cards, Power Platform components, and SharePoint Online services. • Provide technical oversight for ServiceNow and other line-of-business integrations. • Define security and authentication approaches for integrations. Technical Delivery Leadership • Lead technical workstreams throughout Assess & Plan, Design, Build, deployment, and hypercare phases. • Provide guidance and direction to Microsoft Viva consultants, SharePoint SMEs, UX/UI designers, developers, and technical specialists. • Establish technical standards, development methodologies, and implementation best practices. • Conduct solution reviews and architecture quality assessments. • Ensure successful delivery of approved solution designs. • Manage technical risks, assumptions, dependencies, and issues. • Support sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and delivery sequencing from a technical perspective. Stakeholder Engagement • Serve as the primary technical advisor to client stakeholders. • Communicate solution direction to business and technical audiences. • Present recommendations, architecture decisions, and roadmaps to leadership teams. • Facilitate design reviews and solution approval sessions. • Collaborate with communications and business teams to support employee experience objectives. • Work closely with the Project Manager to coordinate project activities, milestones, dependencies, schedules, risks, and resource requirements. User Adoption, Training & Hypercare • Support development of organizational change management strategies. • Assist in planning user adoption activities. • Develop technical documentation and knowledge transfer materials. • Deliver administrator and power-user training sessions. • Support production readiness planning. • Provide technical leadership during deployment and hypercare. • Assist with issue triage, root cause analysis, and stabilization activities following go-live. Required Qualifications • 10+ years of Microsoft technology consulting experience. • 7+ years of SharePoint Online architecture and implementation experience. • 3+ years of Microsoft Viva implementation experience. • Experience leading enterprise digital workplace and intranet transformation initiatives. • Experience leading technical delivery teams in client-facing consulting engagements. • Experience conducting executive workshops and stakeholder presentations. Governance Framework Establish standards for security, site lifecycle, publishing, ownership, and operational sustainability. Production Readiness and Hypercare Transition Validate readiness, support issue triage, and ensure knowledge transfer.
